Wake Defeats RU in Season Opener
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest defeated the RU field hockey team, 7-1, in the season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Kentner Stadium.
The Highlanders grabbed the early lead when Laura Morrow scored an unassisted goal just 4:45 into the opening half but were unable to sustain the momentum. The Demon Deacons rallied to tie the score at 26:15 mark of the opening half and eventually took a 5-1 lead into the intermission. Wake added a pair of insurance goals in the second half. Jemima Cameron and Jennie Shelton scored a game high two goals apiece.
The Highlanders return to action tomorrow afternoon against the Michigan Wolverines in Chapel Hill, N.C., at Noon.
