Highlanders Fall to Stanford, 1-0 in NorPac Tournment

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Radford Field Hockey, NorPac East Division Champions, fell in overtime to Stanford 1-0 in the first round of the NorPac Tournament Thursday evening at Davidson’s Belk Field.

The Stanford (7-11) goal came at 71:24 in the overtime period and was taken by Liz Robinson. Robinson scored on her own rebound following a breakaway pass from Jessica Zutz. RU goalkeeper Amy Dietz deflected the first shot attempt by Robinson, but was unable to find the ball on carom, and Robinson fired it into the cage. Dietz recorded four saves on the night.

The game was played tight by both teams as the Highlanders tallied eleven shots and the Cardinal had thirteen. Radford (9-10) had a slight edge in penalty corners with eight to Stanford’s seven.

RU’s Jenny Bell and Angela Feindt both recorded three shots apiece. Radford had several chances, but the Highs were denied by the Cardinal goalkeeper Ana Kralovec, who made seven saves.

Radford will play in a consolation game Friday night at 6:30 against Appalachian State. The Mountaineers lost their first round game to Pacific, 2-0. Stanford advances to the semifinals to play Pacific at 4:00 on Friday.
