Radford’s Fleisher Named Big South Player of the Week RADFORD, Va. -- Radford first baseman/pitcher Mark Fleisher (Glen Allen, Va.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Co-Baseball Players of the Week, sharing the award with Birmingham-Southern first baseman Adam Tucker (Webb, Ala.). The award is the first of the year for Fleisher, who was named Big South Player of the Week three times last season. Fleisher hit an incredible .714 in four games last week to lead Radford to a 3-1 record more than doubling its win total for the season. He went 10-14 all multi-hit affairs, with three doubles to finish with a .929 slugging percentage. He tallied five runs scored, three RBI and a .750 on-base percentage. Fleisher also picked up his second win of the season on the mound, throwing six innings with six hits and no earned runs in Radford’s 12-3 win over Marist. Tucker helped lead Birmingham-Southern to a 6-0 week and has been instrumental in the Panthers’ current eight-game winning streak. He hit .529 (9-17) with four home runs, 10 RBI, two doubles, eight runs and did not strikeout in 24 total plate appearances. The League also honored Coastal Carolina junior Ricky Shefka (Kinston, N.C.) as the New Balance Pitcher of the Week. The Highlanders are now 5-12 this season and will face New River Valley rival Virginia Tech Tuesday at Dedmon Center Park at 3:00 pm. Radford will open Conference play Friday by hosting preseason favorite Winthrop at 3:00 pm in the first game of a three-game set. |
