Fleisher Garners Big South Player of the Week Honors

RADFORD, Va.--Radford junior first baseman Mark Fleisher was named the Choice Hotels Big South Conference Player of the Week the League announced Monday.

Fleisher, a Glen Allen, Va. native, had an incredible week to lead RU to four wins, including a sweep of Conference foe Liberty. He batted .550 (11-for-20), including two doubles and five home runs, driving in 10 RBI and scoring eight runs. Fleisher also tied the Radford school record for consecutive games with a hit at 21 games. Fleisher’s slugging percentage for the week was 1.400, while his on-base percentage stood at .591.

Fleisher, who also earned Co-Player of the Week honors on April 6, becomes the first Radford player to win the Big South Player of the Week award twice in the same year since Mike Potter accomplished the feat in 2000. It also is the third weekly honor for Radford baseball, the first time Radford has had three honorees since 1995. Junior pitcher Justin Tubb won Pitcher of the Week earlier this year.

Radford will be at Virginia Tuesday for a single game versus the in-state rival Cavaliers at 7:00 pm. The Highlanders then head to Birmingham Friday to face Birmingham-Southern in a key Big South series.
