Provides indexing for medical, dental, and nursing publications. Topics include clinical medicine, dentistry, education, experimental medicine, health services administration, nursing, nutrition, pathology, psychiatry, toxicology, and veterinary medicine. 1993 - present.
MEDLINE (free) National Library of Medicine NLM now permits access free of charge on the World Wide Web to its MEDLINE database of more than 8.8 million references to articles published in 3800 biomedical journals. Two Web-based products provide this free access:
  • PubMed: contains 8.6 million MEDLINE records dating back to 1966
  • Internet Grateful Med (IGM), in addition to MEDLINE, HealthSTAR, PREMEDLINE, and AIDSLINE, offers free access to AIDSDRUGS, AIDSTRIALS, DIRLINE, HISTLINE, HSRPROJ, OLDMEDLINE, and SDILINE.
The Merck Manual of Medical Information--Home Edition
Based on the well-known The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, commonly referred to as The Merck Manual, this Web site attempts to provide all of the vital information about diseases, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment, while transforming the professional language of the print version into commonly used English. The Web version is not as extensive as the print version; however, the entire sections on the heart, the eye, infections, and gynecology and obstetrics are included.
