Bruce Mahin's piece
"By Departing Light" for six percussionists and piano has been selected for
performance at the 1999 National Conference of the Society of Composers at Queens College in
New York, April 22-25, 1999. As the largest composers organization in the United States, the
Society of Composers maintains a membership of over 1000 members. The national conference
usually features six concerts of new music selected by jury.
"By Departing Light" has recently been accepted for publication by Pioneer Percussion Ltd. It
has also been published in the Society of Composers "Journal of Musical Scores," Vol. 25 (1998).
Mahin performed his composition "For Every Season" for electronic wind instrument and digital
delays at the annual conference of the Southeastern Composers League at Mississippi State
University, February 25-27, 1999. This work is being performed on the Radford University New
Horizons concert, April 6, 1999.
